places we train outdoors
We offer group, duo and private training in some of the most beautiful parks in the city of Santa Monica:
Palisades Park
stretches from Colorado Ave. to San Vincente Blvd., 1.5 miles long on the west side of Ocean Ave overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Palisades Park is meticulously maintained, and has many peaceful places to put down a mat and get moving. It is a very popular place for fitness trainers of every kind. There are plenty of wandering gravel paths for lunging, sprinting and walking. There are restrooms and water fountains at several locations. Park your car on the west side of Ocean at a meter, or on the east side for free! We generally meet near the intersection of Palisades Ave & Ocean (700 block). This is our favorite place for classes because there is plenty of space.
Muscle Beach
is world famous for the birth of modern bodybuilding and fitness, next to another world famous landmark the Santa Monica Pier. Now it is a space dedicated to one-to-one and personal/ self training, it is a small green area surrounded by soft rubber flooring, “monkey” bars, parallel bars, rings, balance beams and small walls…all perfect for sea-side functional training in full California sunshine. Muscle Beach is a public venue where you might catch someone showing off their skills to an audience. It is much more subdued during the week. There are restrooms and a water fountain right there. Park off Seaside Terrace for $1 an hour (2 hr max) in a secured lot, or ride your bike.
San Vincente Blvd
offers a 1.5 mile stretch of groomed grass “green-belt” between the north and south bound lanes. It is perfect for interval training and running because the soil is shock absorbing, and the tree roots offer obstacles (if desired). The huge trees offer shade and scenery. Park anywhere along San Vince for free.
“The Stairs”
is only for the durable and determined. This well-known Santa Monica landmark is located on Adelaide just north of the west-dead-end of 4th Street. The Stairs offers a workout not unlike a personal pilgrimage testing your endurance. 156 steps from top to bottom is a recipe of shear will! Most people will do 5-10 or more trips up and down in a single workout. Park along 4th for free before 6pm. No parking after 6pm.
Goose-Egg Park
is a very unique venue for small classes and private training because it is off the beaten track, situated smack-in-the-middle of Palisades Ave, just off 7th Street. It is a very private, but popular place because it is not near any other park, away from any riff-raff. There is side-street parking for free anytime.
Temescal Canyon Loop Hiking Trail
a “2 hour” hike that gains 1000 feet of elevation to some of the most beautiful views of the Pacific Ocean. Well maintained, quiet and natural settings are a great alternative to city training. 2 trail options for new and seasoned hikers or trail runners travels 4 miles. Take PCH to Temescal Canyon Rd., turn right and follow it to the end. Park at the Center. The trail is off to the left. Bring water.
